As the day-trippers head back to shore, we head out. The Sunset Aperitivo Cruise departs in the late afternoon and follows the light westward along the coast, anchoring in a quiet bay just as the sky turns gold.

Prosecco, local craft beer, limoncello, bruschetta, local cheeses and cured meats are served on deck as the sun drops behind the Lattari mountains. The colours that follow — amber, rose, violet — are the reason photographers and painters have been coming to this coast for centuries.

It's three hours, but they feel like a different kind of time altogether.
